SCARBOROUGH is the UK's first official holiday seaside resort, which is the largest on the Yorkshire dinosaur coast, and is set in between the sea and the beautiful North Yorkshire moors, with only a short drive to spectacular scenic views and wonderful little hamlets and villages. Traditionally a family orientated holiday destination with its sweeping sandy beaches and all the hustle and bustle of the seafront amusements, and a little fishing harbour with nice modern pontoons and boats galore to wander and see. Not far away there is a selection of golf courses, fishing, swimming, the famous Stephen Joseph theatre in the round to enjoy.
Originally an early medieval settlement, and has the ruins of an 11th century Castle sitting on top of a very rocky headland, which as far as you can see are the north and south bays of Scarborough. This area is known as the 'old town' which is very popular for tourists with a good selection of bars, cafes, restaurants, amusements. The town is still growing with lots of well known high street shops, designer boutiques, and a good shopping mall 'The Brunwick Centre' which has between 35-40 retail outlets, good retail therapy if the weather changes. The night-life is something else, quite funky and upbeat with a great selection of trendy bars, and nightclubs to dance the night away.
Only a few miles by car to Whitby in Goathland heartbeat country, and the small resort of Filey, and Bridlington about 18 miles down the coast, with York a mere 40 miles away. Flamingo land zoo and theme park which is very close to the market town of Pickering which is only about 18 miles drive.
More could be said about this whole yorkshire coast area with its outstanding natural beauty, but the best and most exiting way is to just come and explore for yourself and see it has something to offer everyone from the very young to the very old.
